Royalty Free Classical Music
Need Classical Music for your Project?
Classical music remains one of the most prominent genres in any kind of video project.
From corporate training films to Hollywood blockbusters, there is always a place for classical.
The reason it's so useful for video projects is that it's so versatile.
There isn't an emotion that the right piece of classical music can't capture; let's take a look.
Classical Music in Commercials and Corporate Videos
Some of the best-known brands in the world lean heavily on classical music in their advertisements.
Historically, one of the reasons that classical music was so widely used is that it's public domain.
Musical works become public domain 70 years after the death of the writer; in other words, it becomes royalty-free.
These days, amazing royalty-free music is more readily available, and we like to think we know a little about that.
But, in the past, advertisers and filmmakers would jump at the chance to use classical music for free.
Another reason that classical music is so prominent in advertising is that it has a very engaging nature.
Whether it's full-on in your face or subtle in the background, it either grips you or calms you.
Either way, it engages you.
Classical Music in Films
Feature films or any form of creative video can benefit massively from using classical music.
As we mentioned earlier, classical music can cover every emotion, and that's not an exaggeration.
It can be heartwarming, hopeful, sad, eerie, terrifying, and everything in between.
Classical music is also one of the best genres to use in unexpected ways.
We have discussed in our blog the ironic counter-use of music in video scenes.
All we mean by that is using music in a way that is opposite to what is expected.
For example, this often happens in action scenes, where there is extreme chaos.
Tranquil classical music can counter the chaos and creates a very uneasy atmosphere.
It's also a good way to show your protagonist's strangely calm mindset in the middle of such chaos.
There are far too many to list them all, but we can share with you some of the best examples of classical music in film.
Don't be a Snob
No, it's not just a rude sub-heading, it's an important reminder.
Classical music carries a certain elegance, sophistication, and intellectual quality that most genres do not.
It's true to an extent, the great classical composers are held in such high regard for a reason.
They have created some of the most beautiful and intellectually challenging pieces of music ever written.
The trouble is when people start to use classical music purely as a tool to look or sound up-market. Or, dare we say, to sound a little pretentious.
If that thought ever crosses your mind, just remember that classical music can go wrong; very wrong if not used for the right reasons.
Music of any genre should be about inclusion, not exclusion.
So, if classical music doesn't enhance your project through how it sounds, never use it just for what it represents.
All you will achieve is taking one of the emotionally deepest genres and reducing it to a shallow gimmick; not cool!
However, we know our Audio Buzz users know better than that! Don't forget to use our video preview tool to audition the best classical music against your video.
